OFFICIALS CELEBRATE START OF THE EAST STREET SCHOOL AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM

State Representative Thomas Petrolati and Aaron Saunders, Chief of Staff for State Senator Gale Candaras joined Club and School officials to celebrate the opening of the East Street School Afterschool Program.  The program is operated by the Club in collaboration with the Ludlow Public Schools and the East Street School administration and staff.  The program runs Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on  a pilot basis for ten weeks from March to May.   The program offers both strong social recreational and educational component.   East Street School  Faculty Member Kathy Williamson serves as Club’s  Site Coordinator for the program.  Other staff members includes East Street School teachers Anne Frey, Mellissa Callahan-Dacruz, Stephanie Turgeon, Michelle Mosca  and  staff member Leah Williamson.  Nineteen members in grades K-5 are presently enrolled in the program.  The program will operate beginning next fall for the entire school year.

School and Club officials were on hand to thank our state representative and state senator for their support of the Massachusetts Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs which provided the start-up funding for this new program.   School officials included Committee members James Harrington and Joseph Santos, East Street Principal Brett Bishop, Club President Jim Moriarty and Chairman Anthony Forzano, Board members Phil Goncalves, Kevin Crowley and Ed Sokolowski and Program Administrator Katie Mitus.
